Feb 8 Update

8 February 2009

Dear brothers and sisters,

I hope you had a wonderful meeting today, and enjoyed God’s presence. It has been a relaxing day for me and the whole team. I will just give a brief update with a few pictures.

This morning I taught in the church of a village named Kankarin Kaka. It is a small congregation, but they truly love Jesus. I taught on Ephesians 1:7, that Christ has redeemed us by His blood, and forgiven our sin because of His grace. They were very receptive to the Word, and we were all encouraged. I am including a picture of me and the congregation below, standing next to their church “building.”

As you can probably tell from the picture above, the church “building” is only a straw hut, and it is pretty short. The roof was just above my shoulders. This made for an interesting time in worship and preaching, since I could not stand up. When I taught, I had to lean on the lectern, and my head was still very close to the roof. The cup they use to take up offerings was also hanging there, and it hit my head a couple o times when I was teaching. Needless to say, I did not move around much during this teaching! I will be glad to have all of that space in our building again when I get home! You can see what it looked like below.

After the meeting, we went to a local “club” to get something to eat. Tony and I also went there a couple of years ago. They serve a reasonable facsimile of Western food. I had a hamburger and some fries. I also got a special treat because the team that had gone to another church this morning brought back some fried grasshopper they bought from a girl in the village. It really was not too bad. It tasted a bit like pork rinds with some spice added. If any of you really want some, just send me an email and I will try to get a bag for you. And just in case any of you think I am making it up, here is a picture of the leg about to go in my mouth……

Well with that bi of culinary information, I will close for now. Tomorrow we go to the school that Ginger directs, and I will be preaching in the church at Tamrorro. Please keep me in your prayers, and pray for the precious people of Niger.

In Christ,

Bret
